Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. just gave “public health” a whole new meaning after dropping a bombshell about his past that has everyone’s jaws on the floor.
During a February 12 appearance on Theo Von’s This Past Weekend podcast, Kennedy went full “no filter,” reflecting on his decades in recovery from alcohol and substance abuse. He admitted that before he was in charge of the nation’s health, he was out here snorting cocaine off toilet seats. Kennedy and the comedian podcaster actually met in recovery meetings long before the COVID-19 outbreak and later formed a “pirate” group that continued meeting during the pandemic.
Kennedy explained that when the world shut down, he wasn’t about to let a virus stop his sobriety routine because he had already survived much grosser environments during his years of active addiction. He described how his group of recovery friends ignored the lockdowns because, to him, the “disease” of addiction was way more lethal than anything else going around.
“You know, I mean for me, you know what? When we came in and said I don’t care what happens, I’m going to a meeting every day. And they say I am not scared of germs. I used to snort cocaine off the toilet seats. Yeah, I knew this disease will kill me right if I don’t treat it, which means for me going into meetings every day, it’s just bad for my life,” Kennedy shared.
By keeping it blunt about his addiction the HHS Secretary made it clear that his commitment to staying clean is the only thing keeping him alive, regardless of how many germs are in the room.
