Rick Ross has revealed a terrifying medical emergency that occurred mid-flight, describing a seizure brought on by psychedelic drug use that forced an airplane to make an emergency landing.
In his upcoming memoir “Renaissance of a Boss: Notes From a Creative Reawakening,” the rapper recounts a 2022 incident in which he suffered a seizure while traveling by plane. According to TMZ, Ross writes that he had taken mushrooms before the flight and was experiencing a psychedelic high when the medical episode began. The seizure was severe enough that the pilot diverted the plane so Ross could receive immediate medical attention.
Ross notes that he was watching Will Smith’s 2022 film “Emancipation” at the time of the incident but emphasizes that the movie had no connection to the seizure. He describes himself as physically unstable and mentally disconnected in the moments leading up to the episode, acknowledging that his condition was worsened by poor judgment and ongoing health issues.
The account adds to a series of seizures Ross has publicly addressed in recent years. In his earlier memoir “Hurricanes: A Memoir,” the Miami rapper detailed a near-fatal seizure in 2018. During that incident, he was found unresponsive in his home, foaming at the mouth and struggling to breathe.
Ross previously linked those seizures to excessive codeine use and later admitted alcohol and other substances contributed to his deteriorating health at the time. In “Hurricanes,” he described initially refusing medical help despite friends attempting to call an ambulance. He wrote that he only agreed to treatment after coughing up blood in the shower.
Ross has also been candid about the physical and emotional aftermath of the seizures, including moments of disorientation, fear, and humiliation. He included graphic details in his writing to underscore how close he came to dying.
Now approaching his 50s, Ross frames these incidents as turning points that forced him to reassess his lifestyle and priorities. “Renaissance of a Boss,” scheduled for release in May 2026, chronicles that period of reflection and the changes that followed.
