Robyn Rihanna Fenty has become the first woman to create an original brand at the world’s largest luxury group, LVMH. She has also become the first woman of color dominating an LVMH maison, and her ‘Fenty’ line will be the first new house created by the group since Christian Lacroix in 1987.
Riri’s brand now joins the likes of Dior, Givenchy, and Fendi; positioning Rihanna as a breakthrough designer in multiple aspects. ‘Fenty’ reportedly includes ready-to-wear, shoes and accessories, and “is centered on Rihanna, developed by her, and takes shape with her vision,” according to LVMH.
Rihanna said in a statement, “Designing a line like this with LVMH is an incredibly special moment for us. Mr. Arnault has given me a unique opportunity to develop a fashion house in the luxury sector, with no artistic limits. I couldn’t imagine a better partner both creatively and business-wise, and I’m ready for the world to see what we have built together.”
Chairman of LVMH Bernard Arnault, said in his own statement, “Everybody knows Rihanna as a wonderful singer, but through our partnership at Fenty Beauty, I discovered a true entrepreneur, a real C.E.O. and a terrific leader.” Arnault has been in partnership with Fenty since 2017, creating and distributing its beauty line.
According to The New York Times, the brand logo features a graphic representation of Fenty that resembles a Greek key design, with the name “FENTY” spelled in white letters against a blue background with a reversed “N.” The fashion line will be based in Paris.
Is it now fair to say she had good reason for making us wait on music? Absolutely! Congratulations, Rihanna!??
