Rihanna is not taking her foot off the gas! YAS QUEEN!
Yet again, the singer has us eagerly awaiting the July 31 release for her new Fenty Skin line. Surely the world will be in a frenzy on Friday, as many will rush to buy products that have been the talk of Al Gore’s internet for the past couple of weeks.
In an exclusive interview with Access Hollywood’s Scott Evans, Rihanna spoke in great detail about her passion for her brand and cringed at the idea that it was made to be inclusive for a certain group. Let it be known that Rihanna wants everyone to experience her products, literally any and everyone.
“To me, it shouldn’t even be a narrative. It just should be. I’ve always approached everything like that; I didn’t expect the impact that we’ve had because I thought it was already available. I’ve only seen my mother do her makeup so entering the beauty realm; it was just second nature to keep all of that in mind and venturing out into skincare now; of course, I am going to apply that and make that inclusive to everyone.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
With a bit of humor, she said she will even include “the guys” in her campaign with hopes of giving them representation while noting the stigma men have towards beauty and care.
Rihanna admitted she was not allowed to wear makeup until the day her mother applied it for a school pageant; she says she was instantly hooked. Although her brother told her she looked better without it, she said; still, she loved it.
However, she says she doesn’t think she will apply her mother’s “not until your 16” makeup rule with her own kids, as she feels there are other ways to wear makeup. She said it’s the fun and easy stuff like lip gloss that she currently enjoys sharing with her niece, but she does stand firm that her future kids will not wear it to school, “You gotta draw the line somewhere,” She laughed.
Elsewhere in the interview, Evans took the star down memory lane to talk about her past fashion moments, including her iconic CFDA 2014 look where she appeared almost nude but fabulous in an exposing sheer dress. Rihanna says she remembers getting dress and telling her stylist, “This is it. Like we can’t go any more naked than this. Like we slowly gotten here now, I’m naked with Swarovski Crystals on a red carpet. Like that’s it. This is the nakedness it’s gonna go….right, we gotta pull it back.”
And if you think the queen doesn’t go through her own moments of insecurity, she candidly discussed her 2016 infamous yellow Met Gala look-when she donned a royal yellow train-dress. Of course, most of us thought it was immaculate, but Rihanna revealed that she felt very insecure about hitting the red carpet that night.
“I was scared to get out of that car because I felt like I’ m… I’m doing too much. I was driving past the red carpet, and I was just seeing gowns, and I was like, ‘Oh my God… I’m a clown. People are going to laugh at me. This…this is too much.'” She laughs while recalling the internet meme that compared her to a frying pan with an egg. Still, she says she doesn’t regret it.
Rihanna says her long-awaited album has “tremendously” been affected over the years, and doesn’t blame the pandemic when asked if the new conditions and quarantine has affected her R9 creativity.
“I love making music, so I never neglected it. I always get to it and back to it, but there are other things on the carousel now. So I have to pay attention to everything and stay on top of everything, I’m just that way. And music sometimes takes a hit naturally because these are the things that are crucial in terms of timelines and production, there’s so much that people will never understand that goes on behind the scenes.” She says the release will probably be sooner than the fans think, but she is “going to leave that alone cause she has enough stress and questions” about R9. However, she assures her navy fans that she’s still got us, and music is “her baby.”
Rih says she no longer has the luxury to “shoot out an album” in three months because she has “other babies” that she spends her time on, and she’s very passionate about what she puts out to her fans.
When asked what she hopes her mogul legacy will be and what it looks like to her, she genuinely takes a moment to answer, “Damn…. You know I never ever in my life thought about that but I want to feel proud about everything I’m putting out, even right now, so that even when I’m not here, it’s something that I still felt great about, I believed in, it’s affected people, it’s impacted their lives, and they felt that with their sincerity. And I could just be as honest and true to myself as I can be, and I don’t think about what’s the headline when I leave like because I wouldn’t be true to myself if I did. I just want to be who I am and be the best at that.”
Evans said he loves and loves it for her. So do we. Keep pushing Rih; you’re the inspiration we need.
