Rihanna will take on the voice of Smurfette in the live-action hybrid, “The Smurf Movie.”
During her surprise visit at CinemaCon Thursday, the “Kiss It Better” star made the announcement among the eager crowd of cinema industry execs and enthusiasts. While on stage at Caesar’s Palace Hotel and Casino, alongside Paramount Animation head Ramsey Naito, Riri joked that she initially wanted the role of Papa Smurf, but things didn’t go as planned before gloating over her new role, calling it a “delight.”
“I get to play a part and a role, and I get to imagine. I get to show up in my pajamas in my third trimester and get to play a little blue badass,” Ri reported.
In addition to lending her voice, the beauty mogul will also serve as a producer on the film. Fans waiting on new music from Rihanna will definitely be getting a few new tracks for “The Smurf Movie” soundtrack, though they’ll likely be kid-friendly bops.
“I hope this gives me cool points with my kids one day,” the soon-to-be mother of two shared.
Naito explained that the overall goal of the comedic musical movie is exploring the identity of the blue creatures created by Belgian graphic novelist artist Peyo.” Oscar-nominated director Chris Miller will lead the project. Pam Brady penned the script.
“The Smurf Movie” will make its debut on February 14th, 2025.
