Just a week after reportedly officially becoming a billionaire, Rihanna‘s FENTY Corp. is being sued over a song.
That’s right! The very thing we demand from our Barbados Queen is landing her in a courtroom near you. Apparently, during the Savage X Fenty show last Fall, Rihanna’s Fenty brand reached out to a musician to use one of her songs and mistakenly played the wrong version. The version selected included a sample of sacred Islamic proverbs being chanted. Seems like a simple mistake, right? WRONG!
As a result of playing the selected Islamic version, the musician, who is being referred to as Jane Doe to protect her identity, became a direct target for death threats after the show aired to millions. According to the lawsuit, the artist made it clear to FENTY that one version included the religious verses and one did not and warned them not to use it. Since then, the artist has been forced into hiding with constant threats of decapitation and murder, leading her to have severe anxiety and depression.
Rihanna has publicly apologized via social media following the immediate backlash. However, Jane Doe is still moving forward with her suit and seeking more than $10 million in damages.
