Robin Thicke is finding himself back in court, and this time it’s not over a song, but some Instagram flicks.
The “Blurred Lines” singer is being sued by celebrity photo agency BackGrid USA Inc. for allegedly posting two paparazzi shots of himself on Instagram back in 2022 without paying for the rights. The lawsuit was filed Monday, June 16, in federal court, and it claims Thicke used the copyrighted images without a license.
One of the pics shows Thicke riding in a convertible, while the other features him leaving Catch Steak with his now-wife, April Love Geary. The photos have since been scrubbed from his IG, but BackGrid attached screenshots of the deleted posts to the lawsuit.
According to court docs, BackGrid says Thicke’s actions caused widespread unauthorized sharing and damaged the agency’s business. They also pointed out that Thicke isn’t new to this—he has over 100 copyrights registered himself and went through a huge copyright battle over “Blurred Lines” just a few years ago. So in their eyes, he should’ve known better.
BackGrid says they tried to settle things privately, but nothing came of it. Now they’re asking for the court to issue an injunction to stop Thicke from posting their content in the future and are looking for money damages.
