Actor Robin Williams, known for many childhood favorites as Mrs. Doubtfire, Hook, Happy Feet and Jumanji, was found dead in his California home. He was 63 years old.
According to a press release issued by the Marin County Coronor’s office, police were called to Williams’ home shortly before noon today. They are suspecting the death to be ruled a “suicide due to asyphyxia.” Robin Williams reps released a statement moments ago:
“Robin Williams passed away this morning. He has been battling severe depression of late,” his publicist said in a statement. “This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.”
Susan Schneider, the actor’s wife, also released a statement: “This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one if its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken. On behalf of Robin’s family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief. As he is remembered, it is our hope that the focus will not be on Robin’s death but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions.”
Robin Williams was last seen alive Sunday night. He struggled with cocaine and alcohol abuse in the early 80’s but had been sober for 20 years. He was going back to rehab to focus on his sobriety. It was suspected alcohol was the reason.
Robin Williams was a great talent and an incredibly funny man that brought so much happiness into many peoples’ lives. May he finally rest in peace.
PS: You definitely wore it better.
