Newly-signed Seattle Mariners player Robinson Cano just inked a $240 million contract but the mother of his three year old is lucky if she even gets her $600 a month child support payments.
38 year old Jackelin Castro, the mother of Cano’s son, says the payments are never consistent and she feels that their son should have a better home than their small home in San Pedro de Macoris. Castro says she has been struggling to raise her son on the amount Cano has been paying, when he actually decides to pay. Castro’s only other income is $100 a month from the Dominican Ministry of Sports for training and coaching volleyball, which she used to play.
A Santo Domingo judge has ordered that the child support payments be doubled to $1,200 with another court date set for January 23rd.
“All we can do is try to provide a sufficient amount to the child for his future,” Castro’s attorney, Wendy Diaz, told the Daily News. “Sadly, we cannot force a judge to tell Robinson to love his son more. We want to secure the boy’s future and have something saved for him. This is a step toward providing that.”
Cano gets $148k a game but can only manage to pay $600 a month towards his child……sometimes? Ridiculous.
