“Rocky” Star Carl Weathers Has Passed Away At Age 76

Actor Carl Weathers, best known for his roles in “Rocky” and “Predator,” has passed away.

The film star and former professional football player died on Thursday at age 76. Born in New Orleans, Weathers was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in 1970. After his NFL career ended, he went on to make a name for himself in Hollywood. From the boxing ring to battling aliens and navigating the Star Wars galaxy, this versatile actor made waves in cinema. Known for his portrayal of Apollo Creed in the iconic “Rocky” franchise, Weathers later joined forces with Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1987’s “Predator.” More recently, he graced the “Star Wars” series, “The Mandalorian,” earning him a well-deserved Emmy nomination for his portrayal of Greef Karga. Other well-known films that Weathers held roles in were “Happy Gilmore,” “Little Nicky,” and “The Comebacks.”

Regarding his personal life, Weathers has kept his life off-camera relatively private.  A statement released by the family confirmed Weathers “died peacefully in his sleep.”

“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers. Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts, and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner and friend,” the statement read.
