Rod Wave does a good deed for his community and shells out $25,000 worth of free gas.
On Saturday, the rapper donated $25,000 of free gasoline at the Sunoco Gas Station on 34th Street South in St. Pete. Wave told WFLA that paying for everyone’s gas was his way of giving back to his community.
“It was crazy to me how much gas had went up,” Wave said. “For me, on an everyday basis, it doesn’t affect me much, but I know it’s people out there that really need it.”
A gallon of gasoline in Florida currently has an estimated price of $4.18. And with those prices, it’s a no-brainer that hundreds of St. Pete residents took advantage of the kind gesture. The giveaway began at noon. However, dozens of cars lined up three hours prior to the start time.
One St. Pete resident said, “It’s a big relief, I’m on a fixed income, and this is big for me.”
Another resident also expressed their relief saying, “It’s a hundred dollars to fill my tank right now. And with an SUV, it’s a big relief having this extra cushion.”
Authorities were on the scene to ensure the event ran smoothly. Wave also says he will continue to give back to his community in the future.
“Without what they gave to me, I probably wouldn’t be who I am today,” he added. “So that kind of stuff is only a portion of what I want to do and bring back to the city.”
