Roseanne Barr is seeking recognition for her portrayal of curvaceous body types in Hollywood.
On Monday, the actress turned to Instagram to post a nostalgic throwback of herself featured on the cover of Vanity Fair from 1994. The captivating shot showcases her confidently posing on a chair while wearing alluring black lingerie and high heels.
However, Barr also decided to call out Lizzo and questioned why she hasn’t thanked her for “paving the way” for plus-size women.
“When is @lizzobeeating going to thank me for paving the way. An homage to Botero,” she captioned the post.
Although Lizzo has not yet reacted to Barr’s post, the singer has consistently championed body positivity and self-acceptance since the beginning of her musical journey. In a 2020 video, Lizzo said, “Your body is perfectly yours, even if it ain’t perfect to anybody else. If you only knew the complexities your body possesses, you would be so proud of it.”
Meanwhile, Barr’s advocation has leaned more toward weight loss rather than body positivity since her 1998 gastric bypass surgery and tummy tuck.
“I had a huge overhang and I had it taken off,” she told People in 2003. “It was a little more than a tuck.”
She later said in a 2014 interview, “I went on a new diet. It’s radical and revolutionary. It’s where you eat less and move more—you know, just simple. I just want to keep getting healthy and let go of excess baggage to carry around, so I’m lighter on my feet and in my life.”
