Rotimi wants fans to know that LeBron James’s House Party reboot is a fresh look at the classic film.
“It’s a fresh look, same kind of storyline, obviously. Same elements, but different characters. Whole different generation,” Rotimi said during an interview with TMZ. “We have a similar storyline a bit, but it’s just new age. It’s a fresh spin on it for sure.”
He added, “We’re not playing the same Kid and Play, but it’s like a new-age version of them but not them if that makes sense. It’s not their sons or anything like that.”
TMZ acknowledged that when fans heard James was giving House Party a reboot, it made them nervous after Space Jam: A New Legacy debuted to mixed reviews. When asked to reassure anyone who might be skeptical, Rotimi told the outlet the film is filled with rising stars, and the production looks great.
“We knew that creating a generational movie like that and touching that legacy…we have to bring our A-Game. So, we didn’t take it lightly, and it’s just super funny,” the Power actor said. “We were able to ad-lib a lot, and our director was really amazing at that. We just had fun, and we made it today’s humor, and it’s gonna be very, very special.”
In addition to his busy acting career, Rotimi took some time out during the pandemic to record his new project, All or Nothing. The album dropped on August 27 and has features from Tank, Young Blue, and more.
