Jewelry store employees in Huntington Beach, California, went toe-to-toe with robbers who were packing a sledgehammer.
At around noon at the Princess Bride Jewelry Store in Bella Terra Mall, four robbers came in with hoods on and used hammers to smash the front jewelry cases. The entire incident was captured on store surveillance footage. As soon as the first robber smashed the case, two employees came running up to the robbers, punching and kicking them as the robbers tried to steal items.
In about a three-minute brawl, the store employees manage to ward off the robbers. One of the employees was hit with one of the robbers’ hammers. None of the robbers weren’t able to make off with any jewelry.
Police are warning store employees not to fight back.
“They were very fortunate the criminals did not have any weapons beyond what they used to smash that display case,” said law enforcement expert Bruce Thomas, ABC 7 reports. . “If there was a gun involved, this could have turned out very, very different.”
So far, no arrests have been made, but an investigation into the matter is ongoing. No one was severely injured, but the shop plans to close down for a few days.
