Seattle Seahawks quarterback, #RussellWilson and his wife, #Ciara, have invested in the Portland Diamond Project with plans to bring a Major League Baseball team to the city.
The PDP is led by retired Nike executive Craig Cheek and their plan is to purchase land in the Portland area and begin the process of building an arena. The MLB commissioner Rob Manfred has said he would like to add two new expansion teams but he previously cited Montreal, Charlotte and Mexico City as the early favorites.

If the MLB were to award The Portland Diamond Project with an expansion franchise, those involved in the project would naturally be owners. By investing in the project now, both Ciara and Russell would acquire minority ownership of the team.

“We believe Portland is the next great Major League Baseball city, and that’s why Ciara and I are excited to announce we are a part of the Portland Diamond Project,” Russell Wilson said in a press release. “It is time for MLB in Portland.”

Ciara said in a press release: “I am excited about the opportunity to bring the comradery of the game to the city of Portland. I want to see this vision come to life and empower more women owners in major sports franchises.”
