Days after personal emails from Democratic officials were hacked and released to the public, investigators are claiming that the Russian government is to blame.
U.S. Officials, the Hillary Clinton campaign, and cyber experts allegedly have reason to believe it was hackers hired by Russian government who compromised the DNC emails and released them just in time for the party convention, in an effort to disrupt things and benefit the Trump campaign.
The Clinton campaign is suggesting that there is reason to believe that Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump would be more lenient in working with Russia, than the party has been in the past. Statements made by Trump, which admire Russian President Vladimir Putin’s leadership style, have been listed as possible evidence of Trump’s willingness to work with Russia. There’s also the fact that the Co-chairman of Trump’s campaign, Paul Manafort, used to work as a consultant for Ukraine’s pro-Russian government.
While there has been no official call on whether the Russian government aided in the back, or whether the Trump campaign was involved, those in the Republican Party have denied any wrongdoing.
That didn’t stop Donald Trump, however. On Wednesday he called for Russia’s help in accessing the Secretary of State’s lost emails. “Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing,” Mr. Trump said, staring directly into the cameras during a news conference. “I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press.”
