The announcement came during Deadline’s Contenders Film: Los Angeles event, where the award-winning filmmaker made things official. “Yeah, we’re working on it hard,” Coogler said. “It’s my next movie.”

This confirmation puts an end to months of speculation and officially sets the wheels in motion for the third installment of Marvel’s groundbreaking Black Panther series. Coogler has directed both previous films and is widely credited with building the emotional and cultural core of the Wakanda universe.

While Marvel hasn’t released official details, industry insiders say the studio is eyeing a February 2028 release. Production is expected to begin in early 2027 under the working title “Shadows of Wakanda,” though that name is not confirmed.

In a move that has fans buzzing, Coogler has reportedly written a new role for Denzel Washington. Additionally, Damson Idris is rumored to be in talks for a part, but Marvel has not made anything official.

The main cast from “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” is expected to return, including Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, and Angela Bassett in possible flashbacks.
