A family in Central Florida is reeling from the tragic loss of Ja’Keem Williams, a Black father of five, who was fatally shot by a man angered by noise from his ATV.
The incident occurred Thursday afternoon while Williams was riding his ATV near Orlando. According to Winter Garden Police, Williams was shot while riding his ATV through the neighborhood. By the time officers arrived, they found him unresponsive with witnesses performing CPR.
Ralph Hensel, the white suspect, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Police say he had been “lying in wait” for Williams, enraged by the noise from neighborhood ATV riders. Hensel allegedly threatened to take matters into his own hands if police didn’t intervene. Details about prior complaints remain unknown. After the shooting, Hensel reportedly walked back to the leasing office and declared, “I killed him.” In the taped 911 call made by the office manager, a man can be heard in the background saying “That motherf**ker’s dead.”
Williams has been described by his family as being a peaceful man, with one of his children’s mother telling a local news station, “He was funny, he was humble, so non-confrontational. He didn’t like to argue.”
