Safaree is embarking on a new journey that no longer includes “Love & Hip-Hop.”
The music writer and rapper recently sat down with the “We In Miami” podcast, where he revealed that he has left the franchise. According to Safaree, the experience was a good one initially, but the terms and conditions of shooting the show were one reason why he could no longer film it. The “She Ready” performer says that while filming the show, production wanted “exclusivity rights,” which didn’t allow him to explore other endeavors.
“You can’t have me tied down and say, ‘Okay, only here. You can’t do anything else.’ You gotta pay me to sit,” he explained.
Safaree first joined the cast of “Love & Hip-Hop: Hollywood” in 2016. From there, he became an instant fan favorite. The show allowed viewers to see him as more than Nicki Minaj’s ex-boyfriend, with Safaree documenting his own musical aspirations and entrepreneurial ventures. One of these included a line of sex toys, which followed the release of his sex tape in 2018. Safaree then joined the casts of other cities, including New York, Atlanta, and Miami. While he admits that the show opened other doors for him, his false perception of him is another reason he is happy to walk away.
“People who watch it, they really feel like they know me and that’s me,” he stated, later adding, “These people be really holding on to sh** that they see.”
Though it’s unfortunate to see Safaree leave the show, it’s likely has many other projects in the works.
