Safaree Samuel’s childhood friend was sentenced to a lengthy prison sentence for robbing the Love & Hip Hop star.
On Thursday, Shawn Harewood was sentenced by a judge to 18 years in prison for his role in the robbery. He was convicted by a jury back in July on three counts of robbery, eluding, and resisting arrest.Â
The prosecution determined that Harewood was the mastermind that set the reality star up.Â
Harewood was found not guilty of conspiracy to commit robbery and weapons charges. In addition, he was also facing charges related to robbing Safaree’s friend and was found not guilty.Â
“We are very pleased with the outcome and thankful that justice was served for Safaree Samuels,” said Bergen County Assistant Prosecutors Joe Torrie and Meg Kilzy in a joint statement.
Harewood apologized before his sentencing, claiming the robbery was part of several “bad decisions” he’s made. He said, “these moments do not define me,” and said they are not a reflection of who he is.Â
Safaree was robbed of $180,000 worth of jewelry at gunpoint outside of his luxury apartment complex in Fort Lee, New Jersey.Â
Two other men involved in the robbery have already learned their fate. Harewood’s cousin, Tacuma Ashman, was convicted of first-degree robbery, resisting arrest, and weapons charges last year. Carl Cherry pleaded guilty to conspiracy in 2019.Â
