After an embarrassing 14-47 loss to the Washington Redskins on Sunday, the New Orleans Saints have finally decided to part ways with defensive coordinator Rob Ryan. Sunday’s game marked the third week in a row where fans were left wondering if the New Orleans defense had just stopped coming to games. They gave up 49 points last week in a game against the Giants and 34 points two weeks ago in a game against the Titans. Seeing as how the defense ranks last in the NFL this season (in terms of yards and points allowed per game) and ranked second to last in 2014, a change was long past due.
The rumors of Ryan’s firing first broke Monday morning but head coach Sean Payton continued to deny the reports until late in the day, when he confirmed it during his weekly talk show on WWL Radio. Senior defensive assistant Dennis Allen will take Ryan’s place in the meantime.
Prior to his gig with the Saints, Rob Ryan spent time working as a defensive coordinator for the Oakland Raiders, Cleveland Browns, and Dallas Cowboys. Where will he end up next?
