With the NFL regular season over, I guess it’s time for athletes to act a fool again in the offseason. Instead of kicking back and relaxing during his time off, Saints linebacker Junior Galette is busy getting arrested for domestic violence. On Monday morning, Galette was arrested by Louisiana police on a misdemeanor simple battery charge for allegedly injuring a woman as he was trying to kick her out of his house. Galette was also with his former college teammate, Terrance Banks Jr., at the time of the incident and both men were picked up by police at Galette’s home in Kenner, Louisiana and taken to the police station.
Lieutenant Brian McGregor, the spokesman for the Kenner Police Department, told the Times Picayune the following details about the incident, as described by the victim:
“Junior and Terrance jumped me,” the woman told investigators when they were dispatched to a home in the 4400 block of Rue de la Harbor about 8:52 a.m., McGregor said. The victim told police she had spent the night at Galette’s residence and tried to rouse him in the morning to get money for a cab. Galette woke up his cousin and told him to take care of it. But both men then told the woman they weren’t giving her any money and ordered her out of the house. The three began arguing. The woman said Galette pushed her twice in an attempt to get her to leave the house.“Then, I fell down,” she told police, “Then they both was on me, and I couldn’t breathe. The woman said she tried to fight both men, but couldn’t. Galette is then accused of picking up the woman to put her out. The woman said she grabbed a knife to defend herself because she believed the two men were going to “jump her,” according to McGregor. The woman threw down the knife, and Banks picked her up and put her outside with all of her belongings.”
When police arrived at the scene, the woman was visibly bleeding from her ear and she had scratches on her face.
The 22 year-old woman who is accusing Galette of domestic violence insists that the two were not in a relationship but that she lived with him from time to time over the past two years and acted as his assistant. Galette, on the other hand, simply referred to the woman as a dancer who stayed the night and overstayed her welcome.
The Saints have been made aware of Galette’s arrest and if he is found to be at fault, he could face a six-game suspension. This is in line with the latest NFL personal conduct policy, which states that a first time offense will be punished by a six-game suspension without pay. If the policy is violated a second time, the individual will be permanently banned from the league.
SMH…can these athletes please get it together??
