Lea Michele has been dropped by Hello Fresh after being accused of making life a “living hell” for Glee co-star Samantha Ware. Michele has since apologized but says she doesn’t recall bullying the actress.
Ware and Michele worked together on the hit show Glee. As the world erupts in anger over the death of George Floyd, Ware responded to a tweet from Michele that supported the #BlackLivesMatter movement. “George Floyd did not deserve this. This was not an isolated incident, and it must end. #BlackLivesMatter,” Michele tweeted on Saturday.
Two days later, Ware decided to speak out about how Michele mistreated her while the two were on the show, claiming that Michele once told her that she’d “sh*t in [her] wig.” “Remember when you made my first television gig a living hell?!?! Cause I’ll never forget. I believe you told everyone that if you had the opportunity, you would ‘s— in my wig!’ amongst other traumatic microaggressions that made me question a career in Hollywood,” Ware tweeted.
The two actresses worked alongside one another on the sixth season of Glee in 2015. Ware starred as Jane Hayward, and she has since moved on to play in the Netflix series What/If, Chicago Med, and more. Michele was one of the main cast members during all of the show’s six seasons. But it wasn’t just Ware who experienced Michele’s alleged bullying. Other cast members, including Alex Newell, Amber Riley, and Dabier Snell, chimed in to support Ware’s post and feelings. Yvette Nicole Brown, who worked with Michele on The Mayor, also sent her support Ware. “I felt everyone one of those capital letters, Brown wrote.
Dabier wrote, “GIRL YOU WOULDNT LET ME SIT AT THE TABLE WITH THE OTHER CAST MEMBERS CAUSE ‘I DIDNT BELONG THERE’ FUCK YOU LEA.” Other castmates retweeted Ware’s post and shared gifs that seemingly confirmed Ware’s claims against Michele. Michele and Ware have yet to respond to requests for comment.
The reports of her bullying made its way to HelloFresh; the grocery delivery service issued a statement announcing they dropped the celeb as a spokesperson. “HelloFresh does not condone racism nor discrimination of any kind,” a HelloFresh spokesperson told Business Insider. “We are disheartened and disappointed to learn of the recent claims concerning Lea Michele. We take this very seriously, and have ended our partnership with Lea Michele, effective immediately.”
Michele has since apologized to Ware and her former coworkers in an Instagram post. “I listened to these criticisms, and I am learning, and while I am very sorry, I will be better in the future from this experience,” the actress wrote.
