Denzel Washington presented Samuel L. Jackson with his first Academy Award of Merit at the 12th annual Governors Awards.
On Friday, Jackson received an honorary Oscar from his colleague and friend, Denzel Washington. Before Jackson accepted his award, Washington opted out of the formal toast and chose to give his laughable highlights throughout their friendship. Washington then began speaking about Jackson’s career achievements and philanthropic endeavors.
When Jackson accepted his award, he shared, “When I got this call last year, it was unexpected. But I guarantee you, this thing is gonna be cherished.” Later on in the speech, Jackson added “it’s been a real pleasure making indelible impressions on audiences.” He also revealed that using his famous curse word often, helped him stop stuttering as a child.
Jackson finished his speech by thanking the Academy and celebrating with Washington. The 73-year-old actor is considered one of the highest-grossing actors of all time. Collectively, Jackson has earned well over $27 million globally.
