Plus-size advocate and influencer Samyra is speaking out after an online exchange with Cardi B took a hurtful turn — and her mother is stepping in with an emotional show of support.
Samyra says she initially addressed Cardi B’s remarks about plus-size women in a respectful way, hoping to get the rapper to think about how her words might impact fans who don’t fit society’s beauty standards. But according to Samyra, Cardi’s response — telling her to “shut the f*** up” and to “calm my p***y” — escalated the situation and sent a signal to millions that mocking or dismissing plus-size women was fair game.
The activist, who is no stranger to online hate, says this moment brought a new wave of harassment in her comments and DMs. “By speaking to me that way publicly, she signaled to millions that this kind of language and violence toward fat women is acceptable,” Samyra shared.

In the middle of the backlash, Samyra’s mom posted a TikTok looking directly into the camera with a heartfelt message for her daughter:
“To my daughter Samyra, seeing how you’re being bullied and treated online really hurts me. I’m so sorry the world can be so cruel. I love you. You’re perfect to me, and you deserve a lot more respect. Mommy loves you and will always be your biggest defender and protector.”

Samyra says she’s taking a small step back from posting to protect her mental health, but made it clear she’s not walking away from her mission to advocate for plus-size people to be treated with dignity and respect.
