‘Night of The Living Deb’ filmmaker Kyle Rankin is back with another project, ‘Run Hide Fight,’ about a school shooting.
According to Deadline, the film will follow a 17-year-old girl and her peers as they use their intelligence and skills in order to survive a group of school shooters who are live-streaming their attack on social media.
The upcoming film was shot in Red Oak, Texas, this October and November at a recently shut-down middle school. The film will star Isabel May as the main character and Thomas Jane & Radha Mitchell as her parents.
Other notable stars in the cast are Eli Brown, Olly Sholotan, Cyrus Arnold, Britton Sear, Catherine Davis, Treat Williams, and Barbara Crampton.
The project has been in the works for several years, and according to Rankin, it had strong interest from Hollywood backers, however, after the 2018 Parkland school shooting in Florida that took the lives of 17 individuals, they stepped back from the project.
However, the process didn’t stop there as producer Dallas Sonnier of Cinestate, joined the project and helped raise money for the film independently, all while keeping the project under wraps.
Fast forward to 2019 heading into 2020, the film will finally see the light of day and will be the first film released under Cinestate’s new genre, Rebeller, which the company labels as an “outlaw cinema” space that touches base and focuses on “genres that Hollywood is ignoring and from scripts that Hollywood is too afraid to touch.”
In a statement, Sonnier opened up about the forthcoming film. ”These tragedies are happening with increasing frequency in our society, and our divisive public conversation isn’t getting us anywhere. This movie is not Gus Van Sant’s Elephant. This is a movie that can actually reach a wider audience. I’m keenly aware of the responsibility of producing movies which demand sensitivity in the aftermath of real-world sadness and have extremely high hopes for this socially-relevant and articulate project,” he added.
‘Run Hide Fight’ is set to hit theaters in fall 2020.
