Scientists Say They Are Keeping an Eye on the Covid-19 Variant Lambda

Scientists believe there’s a variant worse than Delta and its name is Lambda.

Scientists say Delta is a thing of the past; Lambda is the new Covid-19 variant that we all should be worried about. Just as we were about to open the doors to outside, we’ve been told to go right back in as the number of Covid-19 cases grows, especially with the new and more easily transferrable Delta variant.

Michael Osterholm, an epidemiologist who leads the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota, says the Delta variant era is just getting started. “The number of intensive-care beds needed could be higher than any time we’ve seen,” he said. In addition, Osterholm noted that almost every person in the group of 100 million Americans who have yet to get the vaccine could catch Covid-19 in the next few months.

While Delta has been running amuck worldwide, the real monster scientists are keeping their eyes on is Lambda. According to science officials, Lambda has been more than successful at infecting people even if they are fully vaccinated. The variant has already been seen in Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Texas and South Carolina.

Other variants, Eta, Kappa and Iota, have been seen in several countries and U.S. states, including India and New York.
