Scooter Braun has publicly stated that he no longer considers Kanye West, aka Ye, someone he knows.
In a recent interview on the podcast “Question Everything” with Danielle Robay, Braun addressed Ye’s history of antisemitic remarks and shared why he’s chosen to cut ties completely.
Their professional relationship ended in 2018, but it was Ye’s repeated antisemitic statements in 2022 that prompted Braun to cut personal ties completely.
“I don’t know him anymore,” Braun said. “The person that I knew wasn’t someone who says those things.”
Reflecting on the change, Braun admitted that letting go of someone who once mattered to you can be one of the hardest things to accept.
“Sometimes the hardest thing to do about someone you care about is mourn them while they are still here.”
When asked whether Ye could still be reached or reasoned with, Braun responded plainly: “I don’t know. I don’t know him.”
Braun also pointed out that his priorities have shifted. With three young children, he said he is more focused on being present as a father than trying to manage a relationship with someone who publicly expressed hateful views.
“I have three beautiful kids that need a dad to focus on them and make sure they’re prepared and strong in this world, and that’s going to be my focus,” Braun said, referring to his sons Jagger, Levi, and Hart, whom he shares with his ex-wife Yael Cohen.
He also explained that he has no desire to mirror the hate he has witnessed.
“I don’t have any ill will,” Braun said. “I have no interest in turning into the monster that people with those views expect.”
Instead, he chooses to stand firmly in his identity and values.
“I’d rather stand proudly with who I am and who my people are and be gracious and kind to all people than be a part of that.”
Ye, whose 2022 antisemitic tirades led to the loss of major partnerships with Adidas and Balenciaga, has issued multiple apologies.
In May, he posted a message that read, “I am done with antisemitism. I love all people … God forgive me for the pain I’ve caused.”
But Braun remains firm, speaking with certainty and making it clear the connection is over.
“The person that I’m seeing is not the person that I knew, so I don’t have a relationship with him anymore.”
