Earlier this week, an announcement was made indicating the conclusion of Erica Mena’s participation on Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta. The news comes following the broadcast of an episode in which Mena used the term “monkey” to refer to her fellow cast member Spice.
Opinions among fans and the broader community regarding this news have been varied. While some view the suspension as warranted, there are those who perceive it as exploitative. Another individual who initially supported Mena was her fellow co-star, Scrappy.
“I think that’s pretty bozo of them to fire somebody after they set sh*t up. They set you up and put you…they get you all hyped up,” he said, noting that even though he doesn’t “f*ck with Erica,” her suspension was unnecessary.

Nevertheless, Scrappy’s attitude swiftly changed. In an additional video, the rapper turned reality star retracted his earlier statements.
“I just seen the clip and that sh*t’s f*cked up. You know, I don’t ever want to wish someone be fired or put in jail or dead,” Scrappy began. “I don’t want that sh*t for Erica. But she was wrong. Erica Mena was wrong. Erica Mena was wrong….Colorism is real. We do know that. Racism is real. Hate is real.”
Although her remarks directed at Spice are the primary cause for her dismissal, Erica Mena is confronting more than just that issue. Last week, Mena was taken into custody along with a few of her fellow co-stars due to a drunken altercation. She is currently dealing with battery charges in addition to various other offenses, and she awaits a court appearance while released on a $20,000 bond.
