Seafood Company Recalls Product Over High Levels Of Cancer-Causing Chemical

A seafood company has recalled one of its products over cancer-causing chemicals.

Over the weekend, it was reported that Bumble Bee Foods issued a recall of its Smoked Clams products after it tested positive for high levels of cancer-causing chemicals called per-and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAs).

PFAs are often found in everyday items like paper packaging, water bottles, non-stick cookware and more. PFAs are used to make fluoropolymer coatings and products that can resist grease, heat, and stains, among other things.

The canned clams were sold around the country. Customers who purchased the items are instructed to check the labels on the items. They should be checking to see if their canned clams have the UPC Label 8660075234, as those are the specific items that were included in the recall, Local 12 News reports. If you have the recalled item, the company is telling customers to throw the items out and seek medical attention if the item was consumed.

Along with cancer, PFAs are closely connected to high blood pressure, raised cholesterol levels and other health-hindering issues.
