Sean Garrett, the hit-making producer and songwriter behind some of the biggest tracks in music, recently got candid about his mental health journey. During an appearance on “The Baller Alert Show,” Garrett discussed how he stays balanced while navigating the pressures of fame, fatherhood, and relationships, all while promoting his latest single, “Girlfriend.”
Garrett admitted that therapy has been a vital part of his mental wellness.
“I think having a counselor is probably good,” he shared, highlighting how important it is for men, especially those raising children and juggling personal life, to have emotional support.
One of the most personal moments came when Garrett mentioned the absence of his mother and how that void shaped his coping methods.
“I don’t have my mom to talk to like that… so your parents are really important,” the 46-year-old added.
Instead, Garrett relies on a trusted circle of friends and the healing power of music.
“Having somebody that you can definitely trust, that you can talk to about your feelings, your emotions,” he emphasized. For Garrett, the studio isn’t just a workplace, it’s his safe space. Creating music keeps him “vibrant,” and performing for fans adds another layer of connection that boosts his spirit.
As conversations about mental health continue to break down stigma, especially among Black men in entertainment, Garrett’s openness serves as a reminder of the strength in vulnerability. His new track, “Girlfriend,” might be a bop, but it’s also part of a deeper journey toward healing and self-expression.
