Sean Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, are in serious legal trouble after being indicted on federal charges for allegedly defrauding businesses of more than $1 million. A Grand Jury in Miami has charged the “Beautiful Girls” singer and his mom with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and five counts of wire fraud each.
According to federal prosecutors, Sean and Janice are accused of devising a scheme to acquire high-end jewelry, luxury vehicles, and other expensive goods without paying for them. The indictment claims they misled businesses by pretending to send money transfers for these items, only for the payments to fail while they kept the goods.
Among the alleged fraudulent transactions are a $160,000 Cadillac Escalade and $480,000 worth of jewelry. Authorities arrested Sean and Janice in May during a raid on his Florida mansion. They appeared in federal court for the first time on Friday.
If convicted, both face up to 20 years in prison for each of the six counts. Sean’s attorney, Robert Rosenblatt, expressed confidence in their defense, stating they look forward to proving their case in court.
