Sean Paul maintains that he and Beyoncé kept things strictly professional while working on “Baby Boy,” but it didn’t stop the Queen from confronting him when dating rumors circulated.
Speaking with The Daily Beast on Monday, May 16th, the reggae star detailed how Bey pulled him aside after their November 2003 MTV Europe Music Awards performance to check him about the false relationship speculation. The 49-year-old confessed that his collaborator was “pissed” and demanded to get to the bottom of the rumors’ origins.
“We go back and talk, and she’s like ‘What’s all these rumors about?’ and I’m like ‘Yo, I’m not saying sh**,’ and she’s like ‘These rumors f*** with my career. I just want you to know that,'” Paul recounted of the tongue-lashing. At the time, Yonce had recently embarked on her iconic solo career. He maintained that the rumors were not coming from him, but the singer still distanced herself from Paul shortly after.
Paul believes that her management team had something to do with them never working together again, despite the success of “Baby Boy.” The “Temperature” star said that while he never hooked up with Bey, he was open to it.
“I wish I did!” He joked during the interview before sharing that he jumped at the opportunity to be one of the first to work with her when she stepped away from Destiny’s Child.
Beyoncé has not responded to Paul’s newest revelation and likely never will, as we know how private the BeyHive leader tends to be. Nevertheless, Sean Paul clearing up the gossip and giving props to the “Lemonade” star is a nice gesture.
