Selena’s Father, Abraham Quintanilla, Criticizes Yolanda Saldivar’s Upcoming Docuseries

Abraham Quintanilla, the father of the late singer Selena, doesn’t approve of the new docuseries centered on Yolanda Saldivar.

Selena, who became a rising star in the early 1990s was fatally shot by Saldivar, the ex-president of Selena’s fan club in 1995. A trailer for “Selena & Yolanda: The Secrets Between Them” from Oxygen True Crime was unveiled last weekend. This two-part docuseries will include an interview with Saldivar, marking her first prison interview in nearly two decades. Additionally, it will present perspectives from Saldivar’s family members aiming to shed light on what they claim is “more to the tragedy than the public knows.”

However, Abraham informed TMZ that the unauthorized docuseries lacked the involvement or endorsement of his family. He stressed that he and his family want no association with Saldivar whatsoever. Abraham emphasized that Saldivar’s narrative hold no credibility and that the public will not be swayed by her account. He expressed skepticism about the potential content of Saldivar’s interview, questioning what more she could possibly reveal that hasn’t already been addressed.

If you’re unaware of the story, Saldivar was dismissed from her position as Selena’s fan club president after Abraham uncovered that she had misappropriated $30,000 in fan club funds. According to Texas Monthly, Selena had agreed to meet with Saldivar on the day of her tragic death to retrieve missing tax documents. Following the shooting, Saldivar retreated to her pickup truck and engaged in a nine-and-a-half-hour standoff with the police.

During the murder trial, Saldivar’s attorneys contended that she accidentally shot Selena. However, the prosecutor revealed that Saldivar did not contact 911 or make any efforts to aid the singer. Saldivar was convicted of first-degree murder and was handed a life sentence in prison. Her eligibility for parole is set for March 30, 2025.
