Sesame Place is now the first-ever certified autism center, and it’s built for those who love the classic, hit kids show #SesameStreet TV series.

Located in Pennsylvania, the park features special activities and services for children with special needs. It’s also staffed with trained employees who understand the sensitivity of autism, and who also promote autism awareness.

“If you have autism or you are in a family with somebody who has autism, the park environment can be very scary and very intense. It’s probably the last place you want to go,” Sesame Park president Cathy Valeriano told TODAY.

Some of the park’s unique amenities include a sensory guide to help parents map out activities for their children prior to visiting the park. In addition, Sesame Place also has two “quiet rooms” where kids with sensory processing disorders can find calm and comfortable spaces, according to Today.com.

International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards were behind certified Sesame Place’s certification. “They developed this curriculum for us and it was pretty intense training that our team went through,” said Sesame Park president Cathy Valeriano told TODAY. The board typically grants certification to companies training in health care, educational fields, police academies and other industries that work frequently with people who have autism and other special needs.

The theme park will open April 28th.
