Megan Thee Stallion is giving fans a life update, and the Houston hottie has quite a bit to share.
The rapper sat down with L’Officiel for a recent chat and luckily, the superstar is in a much better place. In addition to her Hot Girl Summer tour, which is doing well, Meg says her healing journey is still ongoing, but she no longer uses her career to cope.
“I was the type of person who worked through everything. Like, Forget it. I’m going to just go to work. Fill up my schedule. I want to do everything. I don’t even want to think about it. But now I’m like, Well, wait a minute. Let me take my days to myself. I do have boundaries now,” Meg explained.
She also admitted her past need to be surrounded by people. According to the 29-year-old, she was once unable to be by herself, which is something she had to get to the root of.
“Even though I went through a lot of bad things, it really made me have to spend time by myself, which I really appreciate. I had to be by myself to figure out, Why is it so hard for you to be by yourself? Why are you constantly needing to be around so many people at one time?”
Such transparency was felt throughout the interview. Here’s a look at some of the most stunning revelations made by the “Hiss” performer.
Megan Thee Stallion felt that everyone hated her
Meg did believe that most people hated her, seemingly during and after the Tory Lanez trial. Thankfully, she is also crawling out of this head space.
“What I should be focusing on is the love that I do receive. That’s what I’m trying to get better about now.”
She grew up thinking therapy was taboo
Growing up in the South, Meg believed that mental health and therapy were all taboo subjects. After her father, Joseph Pete, died when she was a child, the Grammy Award winner says her mother, Holly Thomas, continued to work hard to take care of her only child. However, the rapper wishes her mother would have gotten help instead.
“I wish she would’ve talked to a therapist or something. I wish she could have been able to talk to somebody to just lessen that load or however she was feeling,” she stated, later adding, “I don’t think therapy makes me weak, even though I did for a long time because, in the Black community, therapy to me meant you were crazy.”
Meg might have some rock elements on her album
As Meg gears up to release her next album, she sheds some light on what fans can expect. While she isn’t necessarily “tapping into other genres,” she will be playing around with different sounds. As a fan of the rock group Paramore, Meg also teased a bit of their elements in her new music.
