Sha’Carri Richardson will miss the Tokyo Olympics entirely after not being selected to be a part of the 4×100 relay team.
This decision comes following news that the 21-year-old track star tested positive for marijuana after the Olympic Trials last month. Richardson accepted a 30-day suspension, which ends before the start of the relays on Aug. 5 and left open the possibility that she could be a part of the 4×100 relay team. However, the sprinter will miss the Olympics altogether, as her name was missing from the roster USA Track and Field sent out on Tuesday.
As previously reported, Richardson tested positive for marijuana after her victory on June 19. She revealed that she used marijuana as a way to cope with stress and pressure after finding out her biological mother died. Despite much outrage from the public, USOC officials stood by their punishment.
