After being stripped of her chance at glory, track star Sha’Carri Richardson is getting another chance.
Richardson will run against the Jamaican Olympics winners after missing the Olympic Summer Games, TMZ reported.
She is one of 9 competing in next weekend’s Prefontaine Classic held at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field. She will compete against Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson-Herah, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, and Shericka Jackson in the women’s 100-meter sprint.
Next weekend’s meet will be the first professional race the U.S. runner has participated in since she was suspended for testing positive for marijuana just ahead of this year’s Tokyo Olympics. She was disqualified from racing in all Olympic track events.
The above-mentioned Jamaican runners took home the top 3 medals in the titular event where Sha’Carri would’ve competed had she not been disqualified.
Each either placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. But it was Sha’Carri who beat them all during the trials and, now, has the opportunity to do it again.
Sha’Carri’s rep said she “is focused on running a good race since she last competed at the U.S. Olympic Trials,” adding … “She will be focused on executing her race to the best of her ability regardless of who is in the race.”
