Shakira has settled her Spanish tax fraud case.
According to TMZ, the singer has agreed to pay the government millions in fines to avoid jail time.
She was able to strike a plea deal for $15.8 million tax evasion, with a suspended three-year sentence and a $7.6 million fine.
The singer, whose net worth is $200 million, won as prosecutors sought double the amount of the decreased fine.
According to Shakira, she settled “to spare my children seeing their mother sacrifice her well-being.”
She added, Â ‘I admire tremendously those who have fought these injustices to the end, but for me, today, winning is getting my time back for my kids and my career.”
During court, she admitted guilt by saying, “I do.”
The imposed fine concludes the case, sparing her from prison time.
