Shanghai Disneyland has temporarily closed its doors due to increased coronavirus cases in China.
On Monday, the amusement park issued a “Friendly Reminder” on its website to inform visitors of the upcoming change.
“Due to the current pandemic, Shanghai Disney Resort, including Shanghai Disneyland, Disneytown, and Wishing Star Park, will be temporarily closed from Monday, March 21, 2022,” the company wrote.
“We will continue to monitor the pandemic situation and consult local authorities and will notify guests as soon as we have a confirmed date to resume operations.”
The memo concluded, “We apologize for the inconvenience and will provide refund or exchange for all guests impacted during this period. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation! We look forward to seeing you soon.”
On March 13, Chinese officials reported 1,807 new cases of COVID, and two people died of the illness over the weekend, the first deaths in over a year.
In January 2020, the Shanghai Disney Resort stopped operations due to COVID-19. In May of that year, they reopened the park.
However, the Mickey Mouse playground was closed for two days last November after 33,863 park visitors had to get tested for coronavirus.
Several people were locked in after one woman tested positive from her visit a day earlier.
The Associated Press reported that one visitor was inside the park when she heard an announcement at 5 p.m. that everyone had to be tested. “No one complained, and everyone behaved well,” she said.
Disneyland Shanghai raised ticket rates on January 9, 2022.
