Shannon Sharpe loves him some Lebron James. However, the Lakers are not even locked in for a playoff position unless they beat the New Orleans Pelicans tonight. Some people have been saying that the Lakers should try to avoid the two-seed Denver Nuggets and prepare to win the matchup of the loser between the Sacrament Kings and Golden State Warriors. It’s a dangerous concept; however, Shannon Sharpe does not think the Los Angeles Lakers are worried about the Oklahoma City Thunder.
NBA insider Brian Windhorst joined Stephen A Smith and Sharpe on First Take this morning. He was shocked to hear that Shannon Sharpe viewed the Oklahoma City Thunder as not a viable threat in the Western Conference due to their lack of postseason experience.
“Do you actually think the Oklahoma City Thunder are going to make it to the Western Conference (Finals)? Do you think they fear the OKC Thunder having homecourt? Really? This might be the weakest number-one seed in the history of the NBA,” Sharpe said.
Windhorst and Smith could not believe their ears, referring to Sharpe’s statements as very disrespectful.
“The weakest number one seed, led by Shai Gillgeous Alexander the MVP to be,” Smith said to Sharpe. Sharpe doubled down on his statement earlier in the segment. “This is the weakest number one seed of all time.” I’ll give you a chance to take it back,” Windhorst told Sharpe. “This is a good team, is it the 2017 Warriors? No, it’s not, but that’s a good team. This is the most competitive the Western Conference has been in 15,20 years. The tenth-seed Warriors are a great team. They went 27-12 in the second half of the season and they are tenth.”
It is no mistake that experience will always help in the playoffs. However, the Lakers just manhandling a youthful and deep Oklahoma City Thunder team with whom they’ve had competitive matchups this season seems unlikely. The Thunder are young and well-coached. Sharpe loves him some Bron Bron. However, he should even know that the West is way too competitive for you to believe the team sitting at number one with a 57-25 record is weak. No chance.
