Since Shannon Sharpe’s rise in sports media, his biggest advocacy has been for his brother, legendary receiver Sterling Sharpe, to be inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame. Sterling Sharpe was one of the best, if not the best, receivers of the early 1990s during his short career.

While blocking in 1994, Sterling suffered a neck injury that forced him to suddenly retire from football before his career could continue. He finished with 65 touchdowns, 8,134 receiving yards, and 595 receptions. He led the league in receptions in 1989, 1992, and 1994 and was also the touchdowns leader in 1992 and 1994.
Sterling passed the torch to his brother, Shannon Sharpe, who became one of the greatest tight ends in NFL history. Shannon has often credited his legendary work ethic to watching his older brother, playing every game in honor of him.
Yesterday, Shannon had the opportunity to deliver the news that Sterling had waited over 25 years to hear—that he was finally being inducted into the 2025 NFL Hall of Fame.
“Welcome, bro, to the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2025,” Shannon told Sterling, who could only chuckle as tears filled his eyes.
“All those nights in that thousand-square-foot home, all those prayers that Granny and Libby and so many people prayed that we didn’t even know God was listening to—to have this moment. And I’ve had some great moments in my professional life, but this is the proudest moment of my life.”
A moment of vindication and legacy for the Sharpe brothers, whose names will now live forever in Canton, Ohio, among the NFL’s greatest.
