Shanquella Robinson's Family Lawyer Blasts the FBI for 'Lack of Transparency' After They Declined to Share Autopsy Results

The FBI is being blasted by Shanquella Robinson‘s family lawyer for “lack of transparency” in the case after they refused to share the autopsy results after declining to press charges.

Robinson was found dead in a Cabo San Lucas hotel room in October last year.

Initially, the North Carolina native was thought to have died from alcohol poisoning, but a copy of her death certificate, obtained by CNN, listed her cause of death as “severe spinal cord injury and atlas luxation.” It also described the death as “accidental or violent.” However, according to family lawyer Sue-Ann Robinson, who is not related to the deceased, the FBI said an autopsy, which was completed after Shanquella’s body had been embalmed and transported, revealed no spinal cord injury, only swelling to the brain.

Federal officials also revealed to the family that they conducted a detailed investigation and interviewed Shanquella’s former friends but did not provide specifics on how many people were questioned.

“There was no swift action on this case. There was absolutely no urgency on the part of the US authorities,” she said, according to CNN. “If you wait ’til five months after someone committed a crime….they would have the opportunity and time and space to delete text messages if that’s what they wanted to do, to talk to each other about the case.”

Prior to her death, a video surfaced online of Shanquella being assaulted by her friends in the room where her body was later found.

Now, Shanquella’s family wants to see the autopsy results for themselves.

Robinson said that the family is becoming increasingly frustrated with the US authorities’ lack of action.

“The family is deeply disappointed,” she said in an interview with The Sun.

“They’re concerned, obviously, about the red flags and the lack of transparency in the investigation, but they’re not deterred.”

According to Mexican authorities, officials filed an arrest warrant for one of the ‘Cabo six’ (the six friends she traveled to the resort with) in November after they ruled Robinson’s death a homicide.

However, last month, the FBI announced that they would no longer be pursuing charges against any of the ‘Cabo six’ due to lack of evidence.

“The FBI says, ‘We cannot release the documents [autopsy results] to you because the case is still open, because we are waiting for documents to be translated to English that we received from the Mexican authorities,’ ” Sue-Ann Robinson said.

“Which again, red flags everywhere because you’ve made a decision in the case, you’ve announced the decision publicly to the family and to the public, but you’re saying the case is still not closed and admitting that some of the documents from the investigative file that arguably would affect your decision to charge have not been fully translated,” she said. “there’s still a path to justice and the family recognizes that.”

The family intends to travel to Washington DC, on Friday to mark 200 days since her death.

“There should be a level of urgency, a level of prioritization by the US authorities that just isn’t there yet,” she said.

“We all saw what happened on the video, and we are demanding that US authorities step in and prioritize the case and allow the extradition process to flow, allow Mexican authorities to prosecute the person they’ve identified as the aggressor in Mexican courts.”
