Ever since Kobe Bryant announced his retirement plans, fans and former teammates have shared their thoughts on the Lakers star’s legacy. Shaquille O’neal called in to Big Boy’s Morning Show on LA’s Real 92.3 this week to share his views as well.
“We will always be the most controversial, the most enigmatic, most dynamic, most dominant, not only in Laker history, but in the history of the game,” said Shaq on his time with Kobe on the Lakers.
Shaq goes on to share other nice words about Kobe, saying that whatever Kobe set his mind to, he was able to get done and that he’s never seen a player out-play Kobe. Shaq believes that like with any other great player, the only thing that took Kobe out is Father Time. “Kobe is the greatest Laker of all time. He played his whole career there,” said Shaq. “He did remarkable things, made a lot of remarkable shots, and he’s going to be missed but Father Time is undefeated. I’m sure the bad thing for Kobe is waking up, feeling sore, those shots he could hit 1000 of 1000 times are no longer falling, but it happens to the best of us. It happened to Magic. It happened to Kareem.”
Kobe and Shaq weren’t always the best of friends during their time together on the Lakers. Shaw says through all the fights, arguing, he wouldn’t have taken any of it back because it made them a strong unit. Shaq and Kobe made amends last month when Kobe appeared on Shaq’s radio show.
