After a Louisana family lost their son in a fatal car accident, Shaquille O’Neal stepped in to assist the family with funeral expenses for the child, TMZ reports.
A few weeks ago, in Louisiana’s city of Breaux Bridge, a vehicle carrying one adult and four minors crashed into a ditch after driving through a stop sign and then hitting a tree. Two of the four children in the vehicle, 12-year-old Trayvon Alexander, and 11-year-old Keshon Batiste, were pronounced dead on the scene, while the other passengers suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The family of Trayvon had life insurance to cover the funeral in its entirety; however, Keshon’s family did not. The family of Keshon tried to cover the difference by launching a GoFundMe campaign. Still, $4,000 short of their goal, Shaq stepped in to help cover what was needed.
Retired chief deputy officer Phil Conrad, told TMZ that Shaq received word about what had happened and wired the money “immediately” so that Kashon could receive the proper burial.
Both Trayvon and Keshon were laid to rest on Saturday. TMZ reports that Shaq has done this kind gesture” several times,” previously helping with the funeral of seven-year-old Jazmine Barnes.
Barnes was killed in a drive-by shooting. Jazmine’s mother was shot but survived, and Jasmine’s younger sister suffered wounds from the shattered glass.
