Shayanna “Shay” Jenkins-Hernandez, the former fiancée of Aaron Hernandez, appeared on Good Morning America Wednesday to break her silence about the new Netflix documentary “Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez” that followed the life, NFL career and shocking crimes of the late NFL player.
The two were together for several years and had one daughter together, Avielle. But in 2013, Hernandez was convicted for the murder of Odin Lloyd, a man who was dating Jenkins-Hernandez’s sister. Despite this morbid fact, Jenkins-Hernandez stood by Hernandez.
Now, after the documentary, which explored her commitment to Hernandez, the 30-year-old mother of two is addressing other claims made in the doc. In fact, during the interview, she posed the question that has been asked by many fans. Why was Hernandez’s sexuality included in the documentary?
“You can’t describe someone’s sexuality without them being here. Although I have had a child with Aaron, I still can’t tell you what he was feeling inside, no one can.”
Through tears, Jenkins-Hernandez added that if Aaron were indeed bisexual, she would not have turned her back on him due to it.
“If he did feel that way, or if he felt the urge, I wish that I was told. I wish that he would have told me because I would not have loved him any differently. I would have understood. It’s not shameful, and I don’t think any should feel shameful on who they are inside regardless of who they love. I think it’s a beautiful thing. I just wish I was able to tell him that.”
Hernandez was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Lloyd’s murder but was acquitted for the fatal drive-by shootings of Daniel Jorge Correia de Abreu and Safiro Teixeira Furtado in April 2017. Days later, the 27-year-old was found dead in his prison cell from suicide by hanging.
