More is being revealed about Sheff G and Sleepy Hallow’s involvement in a gang organization that has netted over 30 arrests.
According to the 140-count indictment, Sheff, Hallow, and several other alleged gang members utilized pig Latin to discuss their extensive crimes. Authorities say they spoke in a distinct interpretation of the language in phone conversations to avoid detection in case of phone taps.
“In this version of pig Latin, the first letters or two of a word is removed from its beginning and moved to the end of the word, followed by the phrase ‘oggada,’ ‘aggada,’ or ‘ay.’ For example, ‘shot’ becomes ‘otshay’ or ‘otshaggada’ and ‘chop’ meaning firearm becomes ‘opchay’ or ‘opchaggada,'” the indictment read.
The investigation was first launched in 2019 and accuses the 9 Ways and 8 Trey Crips of joining forces to take down other gangs in their area. However, it is believed that Sheff and Hallow were big-time players within the criminal organization. Sheff is said to have used his blossoming music career to fund gang activity, including ordering hits and gifting those who carry out the shootings with lavish jewelry. In some instances, detectives do believe he drove vehicles involved in the violence. The gang has been linked to at least 12 shootings and one murder.
Sheff is maintaining his innocence. Soon after the charges were announced, he posted a message to his IG Story that read, “Don’t believe the internet. We innocent.” Each participant is facing decades behind bars. For the conspiracy to commit murder charge, Sheff is looking at 25 years in prison.
