Shereé Whitfield says there is a good reason why her She by Shereé products are so expensive.
The “Real Housewives of Atlanta” OG finally launched the long-awaited fashion line last month after it was initially teased during the show’s first season in 2008. Fans eagerly awaited the brand’s debut but were disappointed at the seemingly high prices for simple items such as joggers for $182 and graphic tees for $82. However, the reality star told PEOPLE that she invests heavily in the quality of her items.
“I’m not just buying a cheap T-shirt and printing my design on it. It’s a quality T-shirt! My hoodies have embroidery on them. I’m working with organic. I’m making clothes that will last,” she explained. Whitfield said that all of her clothes can be worn numerous times and will not fall apart when washing them.
In addition to investing in sustainability, Whitfield says overhead costs also affect how she prices the items on her website. Another factor for at least one of the shirts in her line is that she signs them, an idea that was sparked by people constantly wanting her autograph on their purchases.
“We came up with this idea to sign the T-shirts beforehand and sell them that way,” adding, “that’s taking my time, my energy, my hand to sign each T-shirt that’s delivered” as a way of “putting love” into her pieces.
While the cost of her clothing line has frequently come into question, many items on the website are sold out, meaning someone is paying for the goods with no problem.
