“Grey’s Anatomy” creator Shonda Rhimes revealed that she wrote the conclusion to her critically acclaimed series multiple times.
The Emmy award winner spoke with Variety for their Show Woman of the Year issue, where she revealed that every ending she wrote to close out the show has already come and gone. In fact, the 51-year-old says she has given up trying to think of the perfect ending after writing the series finale on eight separate occasions.
“I was like, ‘And that will be the end!’ Or, ‘That’ll be the final thing that’s ever said or done!'” Rhimes explained. “And all of those things have already happened.”
The “Bridgerton” executive producer went on to add that after Krista Vernoff became the “Grey’s Anatomy” showrunner four years ago, she no longer has any idea of how her hit series will end, despite being the one who brought the show to ABC in 2005.
Though she may not know how it will conclude, Rhimes says that she is the only one to decide when it will end.
Despite the fact that the program is still popular, Ellen Pompeo, who plays Dr. Meredith Grey, claimed in September that fan ideas about the show’s end are “not far off.”
Until ABC and Rhimes pull the plug, fans can still enjoy “Grey’s Anatomy” every Thursday at 9:00 p.m.
