A man entered a Berlin hospital Tuesday morning before opening fire, killing a doctor and then himself in the latest deadly shooting in Germany.
The shooting happened at the mouth, jaw, and face surgery unit of the Benjamin Franklin Hospital in Steglitz. The gunman was a patient.
Berlin police reported the doctor had initially suffered life-threatening injuries, but later died. They also added that they are still investigating the shooter, but don’t believe it was a terroristic attack.
This attack occurred the same day top security officials called for tougher screening for those seeking hospital help. They announced more police officers would be hired following four major attacks in their country, in the span of just a week.
Thomas Strobl, the interior minister of Baden-Wuerttemberg, demanded a tougher stance after a woman was killed by a Syrian attacker on Sunday.
“Those who abuse the right to hospitality must go back to their home countries — make no mistake about it,” Strobl.
